
The report, Approaches to Unaccompanied Minors Following Status Determination in the EU, published in July 2018, states that unaccompanied minors in Belgium, and some other EU countries, that turn 18 "benefit from a combination of support before, during and after transition to adulthood". This includes supported accommodation to help prepare young people for independent living and "integration support" to help assimilation into Belgian society.
However, a report by the Centre for Integration and Migration Studies at the University of Antwerp highlights how this good level of provision does not extend to young adult refugees, who have had their asylum claim accepted but have little in the way of a support network in the country.
