Actions: Health and education leaders in Wakefield deliver services for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) through an effective local area partnership approach.

Ofsted’s latest inspection of the work carried out by Wakefield Council and West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) – formally known as Wakefield Local Area Partnership – said it “typically led to positive experiences and outcomes” for children and young people with SEND. This is in stark contrast to the national picture, which shows children’s education outcomes have not improved over the past decade.

Inspectors highlighted the partnership’s ability to ensure that children and young people with SEND are kept at the “heart of decision making” about their plans and support across education, health and social care.
