In Practice: Case Study - Say no to domestic violence

2 mins read
A partnership in Lancashire launched a county-wide campaign to raise awareness of domestic violence, while offering support to those affected by it. Jo Stephenson examines the methods the campaign used to get its message across.

Objectives: All agencies in Lancashire's Stronger, Safer Communities partnership encounter domestic violence and were keen to address the issue.

When the concept of a county-wide campaign was put forward, children's centres seemed the ideal vehicle to promote it since they are spread across Lancashire, work closely with families and bring together different partners.

The aim was to raise awareness of domestic violence, encourage those affected to seek help and ensure professionals knew about the specialist support available, says Alison Hallaron, project development officer for family support.

What was done: Lancashire's Sure Start, early years and childcare team put in a successful bid to fund the campaign under the local area agreement.
