Making things happen
Growing up in Romford, Essex no-one at school had high hopes for me. I was from a poor family and it didn’t help that I was dyslexic. I needed support with my reading and writing. But I soon learned that I could make a difference to my own life.
When I was young, I decided that I wanted to learn judo. My parents didn’t have much money and classes were expensive. If I wanted it, it was down to me to make it happen. So, I took a paper round to fund the class. That meant getting up early and working at weekends. Knowing that it was me that was making it happen made me push myself even harder. I achieved a blackbelt at the age of 14.
