
Actions: The original idea of creating an alternative provision (AP) at Chadsgrove came as a spin off from the advisory teaching service I had created and developed a number of years earlier.
As a service, I was finding that my autism team were receiving referrals from schools requesting support for young people, most of whom did not have an education, health and care plan (EHCP), who were not attending. Although the specialist teachers in the team were able to provide the young person and their families with meaningful support, they struggled with finding a suitable provision to transition the pupil to, meaning that the pupil was ultimately left without an appropriate setting for some time. This also meant that the specialist teacher was often supporting a transition into a setting based on needs purely assessed at home.
