
The recent National Audit Office (NAO) report Pressures on Children's Social Care highlights the alarming lack of clarity surrounding the reasons for the rise in the number of children taken into care in recent years, and the enormous variability between local authorities in terms of children's social care activity and spending.
All too often, children are shunted around the system in a loop of repeat referrals that do not address the underlying problem.
There needs to be a dynamic and innovative approach to help local authorities gain a clearer picture of each child's history within the system and the interventions made, so that they can respond with the right service at the right time.
