Since its creation in 2012, the Black and Asian Leadership Initiative (BALI) has trained 530 global majority children's services leaders across 27 cohorts.

In June, alumni from the programme gathered at an event in London to celebrate their careers and discuss key issues around race, diversity and leadership in children services. Speakers included Dheeraj Chibber, corporate director for children, families and education at Luton Council and Dionne Thomas, interim director of children's services (DCS) at the London borough of Harrow.

The BALI programme, run over three days and hosted by The Staff College, combines value- and system-based leadership with practical real-world exercises to explore the barriers facing aspiring global majority leaders and give them the knowledge, skills and strategies to overcome them.
