
We’re currently in one of the most challenging environments in recent history, both globally and nationally. There are multiple pressures on children and families and local agencies are having to deliver services and plan with less certainty than ever before.
A child starting in nursery education now will be finishing their statutory education or training in 2035 – over that 15-year period, the state will be responsible for a variety of services for that child and actions now can have a profound impact on what might happen during childhood.
Services need to think how they are going to react if circumstances change – and one of the best ways of doing that is to think through what the future could plausibly hold. Will England be a country where our children and young people feel loved, safe and listened to? Or will it be one where they feel divided and left behind by a system that has failed them?
