Community child health is the largest paediatric subspeciality, focusing on the care of vulnerable children and families, those with long-term conditions and child public health.
This includes children with developmental disorders and disabilities; complex health needs; behavioural presentations of neuro-developmental disorders, such as autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; and those with safeguarding concerns or who are in care.

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and the British Association of Community Child Health (BACCH) has recently conducted an in-depth assessment of the picture on the ground to identify key issues affecting services and to develop recommendations and tools for commissioners to turn the situation around.
