Longfield, who was children’s commissioner between 2015 and 2021, is also chair of the Commission on Young Lives which works to improve policy for vulnerable children.

Bite Back was founded in 2019 by chef and campaigner Jamie Oliver and philanthropist Nicolai Tangen.

It now has more than 70 youth board members based across England.

Longfield takes up the position after Bite Back announced it would shift its focus to calling on the government and food industry to do more to protect children's health through lobbying local and national government.

Longfield said: “I have been an admirer of Bite Back since the very beginning and am delighted to be able to give my support to such an important cause.
