Three key questions the Care Review must answer to improve the system

It couldn't have come soon enough – with 25 per cent more children in care compared with 10 years ago, it is clear the system is facing a crisis. The pandemic has also exacerbated existing challenges for vulnerable families.

The review offers the government a unique chance to invest in support for these families. In doing that, it needs to address three fundamental questions about the social care system.

1. How can we provide timely help to families to prevent children coming into care?

Through the work of our family hubs, we know it is possible to help families address a range of challenges. Barnardo's has long called for a family hub in every community – helping to provide the “village” it takes to raise a child.
