Young offender found hanged at Stoke Heath

An investigation has been launched after an 18-year-old was found dead in his cell at a young offender institution (YOI).

Nicholas Saunders was found hanging in his cell at Stoke Heath YOI in Shropshire by staff at 1.30pm on 2 April.
A Prison Service spokesman said: "Staff attempted CPR and paramedics attended but he was pronounced dead at 2.40pm."
"As with all deaths in custody the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."
It is the second time in four months that a young person has died at Stoke Heath YOI.
Michael Cartwright, also 18, who was serving 20 months for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and theft, was found hanging in his cell at the YOI, on 20 December.
