Welsh website guides councils on child poverty

The bilingual website was set up by Dr Brian Gibbons, minister for Social Justice and Local Government, in partnership with Save the Children in Wales and the Welsh Local Government Association.

It includes a self-assessment toolkit that helps councils measure their success in addressing child poverty. They can also access guidance for developing statutory children and young people plans.

At the launch of the website, Mr Gibbons said: Tackling child poverty is at the very top of our agenda for this third term. It is fundamental to the future prosperity of Wales and to the health and well being of its people.

This website will not only help local authorities to understand their role but also measure how they are progressing in tackling child poverty. He said he hoped the website would enable councils to learn from each other and thereby increase their effectiveness in combating this issue.
