The Big Deal Competition, run by education charity Brightside and The Excellence Hub for Yorkshire and Humber, is a 10-week programme in which we had to create a business team, come up with a new product, write a business plan and, to finish it off, pitch it all to nine intimidating businessmen and women.

Starbucks Youth Action

What is it? Starbucks Youth Action is a global funding initiative from the coffee shop company designed to promote local youth activities and volunteering. Its UK fund is being run in partnership with UK Youth. The fund supports young people to bring to life projects that mean something to them, as well as offering training to young people on managing a budget, working with volunteers and project management. Now in its fourth year, the fund has supported more than 100 youth-led projects in 10 cities in the UK and Ireland.

Good Idea: Homeless youth create forum to engage MPs

This 100-strong forum is helping young people who are, or have experience of, being homeless raise the profile of youth homelessness by meeting ministers and MPs to explain about the problem and directly lobby for policy changes that will improve support.
