I began volunteering at New Hartley Kids Club when I was 10. By the time I was 11, I started nagging the senior development worker at Cramlington Voluntary Youth Project (CVYP) every week to take me up to where she worked with young people with special needs, as I thought I could make a difference. After much persuasion, she took me to CVYP to help out in the Easter schemes.

I first became involved with Berkshire Youth when I was a member of the Youth Parliament. Berkshire Youth was able to help me with a campaign to attract more young people into volunteering around Berkshire. The programme was successful and I saw various young people at clubs volunteering as a result. It is a joy to see them having fun, and afterwards I was offered a place on a course to develop my leadership skills.
