The UK-wide Children Today charity was set up in 1994 to provide disabled children and young people with specialist equipment to help improve their quality of life. There is no statutory right for young people with disabilities to be provided with equipment they need by the government or NHS, a "gap" that the charity attempts to fill. It relies entirely on voluntary donations.

The Dulverton Trust is an independent body that provides grants to UK-registered charities to fund activities for disadvantaged young people. It also funds other areas including welfare and conservation. It usually provides single year grants but occasionally provides longer-term support of up to three years.
