I would introduce more selective state schools into the education system. It is clear from the few remaining grammar schools that at GCSE and A-Level, selective state schools far outperform their non-selective counterparts.

I would swap the roles of teacher and student. Pupils could see and understand how much pressure and stress teachers are under and it would also remind teachers how stressful and hard it is to be a student.

Half of the population are bullied at some point in their lives. I was bullied myself and feel that good anti-bullying work is a must for all schools, as young people spend an estimated 11,000 hours at school.

I think the best way to get a child into books is to encourage them from an early age. In primary schools or even nurseries there can be a book that should be read every week to the children at home; the book would then be followed up in class. This would encourage the child to enjoy books and the parents to spend time reading to their children.
