A survey at the recent Local Government Association and National Youth Agency Troubled Families Conference identified that 85 per cent of local authority young people's services were actively engaging with the voluntary sector.

A total of 45 senior local authority managers responded to the poll, which was held as part of the free one-day event in Birmingham. Only 16 per cent responded no and two per cent are looking to at the moment.

The National Youth Agency, as part of it Routes to Success programme of work, is currently working with the British Chambers of Commerce and Manchester City Council to develop best practice guidance for councils on brokering relationships and creating a sustainable strategy for engaging and maintaining business sector support.

The guidance will be launched in early 2013 and further details will be in featured in future issues of Children & Young People Now.
