NCB Now: Events are key part of peer-to-peer support

NCB's Early Childhood Unit has been running a series of successful and well-attended regional events for local authority early years staff.
Each event, a key element of NCB’s peer-to-peer support programme, has explored a different early years theme: early communication and language development within the Early Years Foundation Stage in Manchester; improving the quality of early years settings in York; and working together to support families in London.
The keynote speaker at the London event was Naomi Eisenstadt who led the creation of Sure Start Children’s Centres while at the Department for Education.
She spoke about her experiences of managing the programme and offered her thoughts on how to develop high quality early years services for young children and families.
A selection of workshops was provided to support practitioners in working with families, and there was an opportunity to hear how Hillingdon is developing its health visiting and breastfeeding support service through becoming an early implementer site.
The final event for 2012, including a presentation from Professor Cathy Nutbrown from the University of Sheffield, on her independent review of early education and childcare qualifications, will take place in Birmingham on 12 March.
