Young people to warn of cancer risk

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

A group of young ambassadors has been appointed to talk to young people about the risks and symptoms of teenage cancer.

The education initiative by the Teenage Cancer Trust is targeted at 15- to 19-year-olds and will begin doing outreach work in five London boroughs from June.

The 11 ambassadors, aged between 16 and 22, will lead their own local outreach programme and talk to teenagers on the streets and in youth clubs, parks, clinics and shopping centres.

Nigel Revell, director of education at the Teenage Cancer Trust, said: "We've recruited ambassadors who really know their area, love networking and are passionate about making a difference.

"Some of them have had cancer already impact on their lives directly and some just want to help."

The project is being funded by investment bank Barclays Capital. Organisations or young people wanting to get involved should contact Joanna McCarthy at jo@livity.co.uk.
