Worker suspended after child murder

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

A social worker has been suspended for two years after admitting she ignored warnings that a toddler was being abused a week before the child was murdered by her mother's partner.

Judyth Kenworthy, a former family placement officer at Kirklees Council, admitted failing to pass on warnings she had received from a carer about two-year-old Sanam Navsarka.

Sanam died on 8 May 2008 after suffering more than 100 injuries.

The General Social Care Council suspended Kenworthy for the maximum two-year period for failing to report that the child had a bump on her forehead and had been locked in a cupboard.

In 2009, Subhan Anwar was convicted of murder and given a 23-year sentence. Sanam's mother, Zahbeen Navsarka, was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to nine years imprisonment.
