Welsh YOTs to get say on monitoring

Tuesday, January 15, 2008

Youth offending teams (YOTs) in Wales are being asked to choose how their performance is monitored.

The move comes as a result of local authority reforms in England, whereby the Youth Justice Board (YJB) is discontinuing half the current performance indicators for English YOTs from April.

It is now offering Welsh YOTs the option of mirroring these arrangements or working with it over the next year to develop a set of changes for Wales.

The proposal is designed to reduce YOTs' reporting burden by stopping indicators that do not contribute to service improvements and to support Youth Justice: The Scaled Approach, a programme designed to bring about changes in the youth justice system.

For both options the YJB has said it will undertake further work in collaboration with service providers and other relevant stakeholders.
