Funding to help fulfil the dreams of sick and disadvantaged children

Thomas Cook Children’s Charity
Thomas Cook Children’s Charity

What is it? The charity was established in 2009 and provides grants for young people and organisations working with young people. It aims to fulfil the dreams of as many sick and disadvantaged children as possible. Income is generated through fundraising initiatives run by Thomas Cook employees, as well as contributions from customers who are asked to make a donation when they make a booking with Thomas Cook. In the past three years, more than £3m has been raised and donated.

How much is on offer?
Projects vary significantly in size. The fund has made a £1m commitment to children’s hospice charity Together For Short Lives to help build new or refurbish existing facilities in all 43 of its children’s hospices throughout the UK. It has also supported Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Olympic legacy programme, with a commitment of £500,000 for sports clubs. At the other end of the scale, a £4,500 grant for audio verbal therapy was given to a girl who lost her hearing following her premature birth.

What will it fund? The charity focuses on supporting disabled children, children in hospital, disadvantaged children and children with life-limiting conditions who are living in hospices. Grants can be used to help improve education facilities, provision that aims to boost wellbeing and health care, and can cover the cost of short breaks or fund specialist equipment.

When is the deadline? Applications for grants are accepted throughout the year. A copy of the application form can be found in the resources section of the charity’s website http://www.thomascookchildrenscharity.com/
