Thursday, April 1, 2010

What are they doing? Southwark Primary School is one of the first primary schools in the country to be rebuilt under the government's Primary Capital Programme. The new multi-million pound school is one of 23 primary schools to be built in pathfinder authorities. Pupils and staff are set to move into the new building this month.

Why Nottingham? Nottingham Council is a Primary Capital Programme pathfinder local authority and East Midlands Regional Champion.

What is the new school like? The new school will cater for 720 children. Classrooms are equipped with cutting-edge technology. The school also has several flexible internal and external learning spaces.

Anything else? Schools minister Vernon Coaker visited the school for a guided tour last month. He says: "I'm pleased that the local community, staff and children at Southwark Primary School will soon be able to enjoy their new school and I wish them all the best."

What do the staff think? Michaela Saunders, head teacher at the school, adds: "Staff and pupils have been working with designers to develop a school that will provide children with high-quality learning environments for now and for generations to come."
