RESEARCH: Carnegie to study support group levels

Wednesday, March 5, 2003

Grant-making organisation the Carnegie UK Trust is ploughing 30,000 into a nationwide report that will study the size and breadth of support groups for young people.

The report, which will have a particular focus on disadvantaged young people, will be carried out by the Trust for the Study of Adolescence, a youth research group.

Detailing the level of disadvantaged youth campaigning groups in the UK, the report will be analysed and broken down for a good practice guide aimed at individuals running youth groups. Results will also be distributed to other researchers and policymakers.

Plans for the report came about following research from the Trust for the Study of Adolescence, which found that youth groups, often for disabled, gay and lesbian young people, were gaining in influence and having an effect on the lives of older people.
