Parties to recruit foster carers

Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Newcastle City Council has launched Tupperware-style parties to encourage more people to become foster carers.

The parties are hosted by existing foster carers in their own homes and aim to give those interested in fostering a chance to find out more about what is involved. A member of the council's fostering team is also on hand to answer any queries and the council provides tea, coffee and cakes.

Pat Finn attended one of the first parties with her husband after being told they would make good foster carers when they were going through the adoption process.

"It was a very relaxed atmosphere, we learned a lot and we felt comfortable asking questions," she said.
