My Life: Celia Evans, 13, Ipswich

Tuesday, May 24, 2005

I was really surprised and happy when I won a prize in Mencap's national photographic competition. I took the photo while playing in the leaves with my little sister Martha and my older sister Rachael. It was taken in my back garden. I thought Martha looked really sweet and happy and like she was having lots of fun. So I ran inside to get my camera, waited for a smile and clicked.

Martha is two years old and was born with Down's syndrome. She's really fun to play with and she thinks of really cool games. When she's singing, she always sings sweet songs. She's really easy to speak to even though she can't speak that well. She's really happy all the time.

I go to St Albans School in Ipswich and like playing with my friends.

My favourite subject is drama. I also like horse riding and shopping.

I'm really looking forward to going to London for the award ceremony and meeting other people. I don't think Martha will come as she's in hospital at the moment.

- Celia was awarded a runner-up prize in Mencap's national photographic competition Snap!. The photos will be displayed at the V&A in London from 18 June to 1 August
