What are they doing? A group of disabled young people from schools and colleges in Knowsley are having their artwork showcased at Kirkby Library, as part of an exhibition considering the issues around transitions to adulthood.
What did it involve? The young people worked with staff from Knowsley Council's sensory impairment service and Photovoice, a charity that aims to improve people's social and economic wellbeing through photography. The group took a collection of photographs reflecting their hopes and fears about becoming adults and named the exhibition Eyes Wide Open.
How did it go? Graham Wright, lead member for children's services in Knowsley, says: "These young people face challenges that most of us take for granted. But they have overcome these difficulties and put together a fantastic exhibition which will touch all those who see it."
Anything else? Given the quality of Eyes Wide Open, the council asked the young people to extend their exhibition by taking photos based on the importance of friendship. This work will also be displayed at Kirkby Library. The scheme received funding from Knowsley Council's Aiming High for Disabled Children programme.
