IT in schools

If I were in charge of IT in schools I would ensure much more importance was placed on it as a subject, as I believe it is as much a part of the curriculum as maths, English or science.

I would also ensure that new methods of teaching would be developed to aid this.

One of the ways I would do this would be to encourage peer-to-peer teaching as part of the IT curriculum. I already do this by helping to run a series of classes to teach older people how to use the internet, for which I have been awarded as BT Internet Ranger of the Year.

The classes have helped develop my confidence and communication skills, as well as reinforcing my knowledge of IT and computers.

Teaching older people who would have otherwise avoided using the internet has shown me just how much we rely on IT. It is crucial that we realise this changing way of life, and that we adapt our learning to address this.
