HOMELESSNESS: Coventry opens youth complex

Wednesday, February 12, 2003

Up to 63 vulnerable young people at a time will be supported and trained at the 4 million Coventry Foyer complex, which is now open.

The scheme was purpose-built by the Touchstone Housing Association to serve the needs of young adults in Coventry and Warwickshire who would benefit from living in a more stable domestic environment. It will help young people get jobs and assist them in making the transition to an independent life.

Facilities at the Foyer, which was opened by Coventry's Lord Mayor, Ken Taylor (pictured), include an IT centre, a training kitchen and recreation rooms.

Principal sponsors and partners for the scheme are Touchstone, development agency Advantage West Midlands, the European Regional Development Fund, Coventry City Council, the Housing Corporation and Peugeot Motor.

Steve Stewart, chair of the Coventry Foyer trust, said: "We now have all the very best accommodation, training, development and support for some of our most vulnerable young people. All the agencies that work with young people, for example Connexions, social services and the youth service, are working hard together to make sure our young people get the best start."
