Grant to aid local voluntary action

Tuesday, March 4, 2008

The National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA) has received 185,000 to help local infrastructure organisations (LIOs) implement the aims of Every Child Matters.

The third sector support organisation was given the grant by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).

LIOs are voluntary organisations set up, owned and run by local groups to support, promote and develop local voluntary and community action.

NAVCA will work with the DCSF along with other organisations with an interest in Every Child Matters to build on the role of LIOs in its delivery.

Neil Cleeveley, director of information and policy at NAVCA, said the groups its members work with support disadvantaged and hard-to-reach communities and the children and young people in them.

"Now NAVCA can ensure LIOs have timely and relevant information to pass on to groups they work with," he said.
