On Friday 23 November, as part of 11 Million Takeover Day, I shadowed Ravi Chandiramani, editor of Children & Young People Now.

Having grown up watching Spiderman, I had an image of an editor making conflicting decisions and printing radical articles, so I was keen to see what the role was like in real life.

On arrival at the office, things seemed remarkably calmer than I anticipated. Everyone was working behind their desks, instead of running around with drafts. I was passed some articles to proofread and a list of things to research for an upcoming piece.

After lunch, we met with the news editor and his deputy about the running order for the magazine. I was then given the opportunity to write an article for the monthly supplement Youth Work Now entitled Get with it, describing the latest crazes young people are into.

It was interesting to see how the magazine is built up from initial idea to final design. Everyone has a role and the editor ensures it comes together. I was lucky to get a flavour of the intricate process behind a great magazine and thoroughly enjoyed my day.
