Children in London get a colourful introduction to reading

Tuesday, December 11, 2007

A group of under-fives met the swashbuckling Captain Bluster at a pirate-themed event to get young children reading.

The event, which took place at the Idea Store library in Whitechapel, east London, aimed to give children and their families a sense of the services on offer. Labour councillor Shiria Khatun, lead member for culture at the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, said: "Having pirates act out stories brought books to life for the children. Hopefully they'll be dragging their parents back to explore the Idea Store and borrow more books."
