Ask the Expert: Olympics preparation

As manager of a London nursery, is there anything I should do to prepare for the Olympics?

The most important thing is how to ensure you can keep the children happy, healthy and safe, so logistics and security need to be sorted. Talk to staff about how they plan to travel to and from work; delays will have implications for ratios and overtime.
Consider whether to rearrange deliveries of food. Talk to parents about arrival and collection times of children, fees and flexibility.

Think about holiday club outings and how these might be affected. Make contacts with local nurseries to support one another; identify which hospital is the designated emergency hospital; update everyone’s contacts. Finally, communicate with parents often and keep them involved in your plans.
