ARTS BEAT: Banging the drum

Wednesday, February 12, 2003

The Soundhouse in Plymouth is re-engaging disaffected young people through music. This project is a collaboration between Estover Community College and Estover Percussion Project, involving technology, bands, musicians and teachers in performing arts centres. The scheme brings together music-related projects ranging from a steel band, Real Steel (pictured), to providing music for a tea dance for elderly people. The Soundhouse opened last autumn after funding was provided from sources including the National Lottery and the South West Regional Development Agency. Other supporters include the Garfield Weston and the Nationwide Foundations.
