All the information you need to face the challenges ahead

Welcome to the new-look CYP Now. We've reformatted the magazine for the new year to better serve your needs.

There is more analysis of the important issues affecting all those who work with children, young people and families, which follows a roundup of the main stories in case you missed them on our website.

There is a regular showcase of case studies featuring projects and programmes that are both innovative and can demonstrate their impact. We kick off with two of our recent CYP Now Award winners from Lincolnshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

There is a dedicated focus on workforce issues, with a regular examination of different roles across the sector. In this edition, we look at the job of short breaks workers while June O'Sullivan at the London Early Years Foundation shares her advice on running a social enterprise.

We have widened our array of expert commentators. As well as regular columnist John Freeman, a five-strong commentary team will take it in turns to deliver their insights. Starting us off is Chris Hanvey, chief executive of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. Also on the team is Denise Burke, former head of childcare at the London Development Agency and now a consultant; National Children's Bureau chief executive Sir Paul Ennals; Shaks Ghosh, chief executive of the Private Equity Foundation; and Lisa Nandy, MP for Wigan and member of the education select committee.

This edition also includes ChildRight, our four-page focus on children and the law, produced by the Children's Legal Centre. Youth Work Now, our four-page section for youth workers, features in our next edition, on 25 January, and the second issue of every month thereafter.

It is clear 2011 will be a difficult year, but we will continue to cheerlead your vital contribution to improving young lives. The new-look magazine — now fortnightly — has been reformatted to provide even more substance, analysis and insight. And online at cypnow.co.uk you can get the most comprehensive source of daily news for the sector. We hope you like the changes. If we can improve further, let me know by emailing ravi.chandiramani@haymarket.com.
