Youth service guidance under scrutiny ahead of government review

Youth sector bodies have submitted final responses to a public call for evidence seeking views on the effectiveness of statutory guidance for local authority youth services.

The review had been due to take place from late July but was rescheduled to be launched by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) on 3 October.

However, the DCMS was unable to say exactly how many responses it had received in response to the delayed eight-week public call which ended on 1 December.

It asked for respondents’ views on their awareness and understanding of existing statutory guidance, and how effective they think it is in securing services for young people.

The government pledged to review the guidance, last updated in 2012, as part of its Civil Society Strategy published in August 2018.
