The government will release its Youth Alcohol Action Plan on Monday (2 June).
Promised in The Children's Plan, the strategy will improve alcohol education in schools and look at ways to tackle parental problem drinking.
Advice to parents will include when best to introduce children to alcohol or how often to let them have a glass of wine with dinner.
It is thought Children's Secretary Ed Balls will also want to look at the role played by alcohol branding and advertising in influencing children to drink.
