A social worker from Croydon faces being struck off the professional register when he appears before the General Social Care Council (GSCC) tomorrow.

Stephen Dent stands accused of misconduct after being found guilty of assaulting a 12-year-old service user by using excessive force to remove him from his home.

Dent was found guilty in January last year of assault by beating.

He received a conditional discharge for 24 months and was ordered to pay compensation of £250.

Meanwhile, another social worker is due to appear in court next week to face drug charges after allegedly attempting to sell cocaine to police at a party last year.

Niamh Duignan, 28, of Fallowfield, Manchester is due to appear at Chester Crown Court on 19 January.

The incident is alleged to have happened at a party arranged for police and social workers involved in child protection.

Duignan is currently suspended from the GSCC register pending the completion of an investigation.
