A new programme to prevent knife crime has been launched in London.

The Life Skills programme will provide knife awareness training to hundreds of youngsters. It will teach children how to be aware that someone else is carrying a weapon and discourage the youngsters from carrying weapons themselves.

The organisation has also devised a Boot Camp to reach young people on the brink of joining gangs or getting involved in crime. Life Skills is working with Mothers Against Murder and Aggression on the initiative.

Lyn Costello, co-founder of Mothers Against Murder and Aggression (MAMA) said: MAMA is backing and working with Life Skills because believe this could be part of the solution to the terrible epidemic of violence among our young people. Families of victims of knife crime are also offering their support.

The core programme has been developed over the last three and a half years and has been successfully piloted in several schools with positive results and feedback. The latest event in the programme will be held on the 23 September. It will take the form of a workshop and presentation of the Life Skills for Children programme.
