Private sector professionals want to work in education

Bankers, IT managers and engineers are among those eyeing up jobs in teaching, according to a survey from the National College for School Leadership.
Forty-seven per cent of more than 1,000 private sector managers considering moving into the public sector said they were thinking of moving into education. The greatest number of these came from the banking sector, with 58 per cent of bankers opting for a move into education. Other sectors included IT/telecoms (50 per cent), leisure (50 per cent) and engineering (47 per cent).
A fifth of those wanting to move into education said they would like to be a head teacher, with the percentage rising to 29 per cent of those in London.
Steve Munby, chief executive of the National College for School Leadership, said: "There are already many talented leaders en route to headship but we need to bolster this number, so it's encouraging to see a real appetite among senior managers and directors for a career in education."
