The National Day Nurseries Association has launched an online service that allows nurseries to monitor and develop their work.
The e-Quality Counts system lets users evaluate their nurseries against the Early Years Foundation Stage, Common Core, Every Child Matters and Quality Improvement Principles.
It also includes online mentoring and training to help nurseries develop their work. The course can take up to two years to complete.
The Children's Workforce Development Council funded the development of e-Quality Counts, but users will have to pay for the service or apply for funding.
Stella Ziolkowski, head of workforce development at the association, said: "Initial feedback from pilot settings indicates how it has helped them to have a strong focus on quality and lift staff morale and motivation in the process."
