NCMA calls for commitment to childcare

A leading childcare charity is urging whichever party forms a government to pledge its commitment to early years and childcare, as the general election fails to deliver a decisive result.
As the country faces a hung parliament, the National Childminding Association (NCMA) reflected on its impact for the sector and called on the government to ensure that the stability of early years provision is safeguarded.
NCMA joint chief executive Catherine Farrell said: "Only by investing in all forms of childcare will the government ensure that families can access the childcare that best meets the needs of their children.
"NCMA looks forward to working with the government to ensure that all families have access to high-quality childcare and all children reach their full potential," she added.
The charity published its own general election manifesto in March, which asks the new government to provide more investment in training, qualifications and local childminding networks.
