Murder prompts youth violence concerns

Police officers and politicians have led calls for more action on youth violence following the sentencing of three teenagers for the murder of Garry Newlove.
Adam Swellings, 19, Stephen Sorton, 17, and Jordan Cunliffe, 16 were found guilty of kicking the 47-year-old father of three to death, after he confronted them over their drunken behaviour.
Peter Fahy, the chief constable of Cheshire, where the attack took place in Warrington, said measures should be introduced to curb binge drinking.
And shadow home secretary David Davis said: "We need to see robust law enforcement - police back on the streets taking a zero-tolerance approach to crime, and honest and appropriate sentencing.
"We must also address the deeper causes - strengthening families, restoring school discipline and defeating the scourge of binge-drinking and drugs that feed the violence on our streets."
