MPs call for statutory definition of child criminal exploitation

The letter, written by the education select committee, follows a series of oral evidence sessions on child exploitation and county lines gangs targeting of children and poses a set of questions for the government, including whether ministers plan to introduce a statutory definition of CCE.

The evidence sessions, which took place on 23 February and 4 July, and saw experts from the National Policy Chiefs’ Council, the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel and children's charities questioned by MPs on the prevalence of CCE and its impact on children. According to the committee's findings from the evidence sessions, many witnesses were in favour of introducing a statutory definition.
