A new health service for young people offering contraception and advice on sexually transmitted diseases is to open in Luton.

The service was commissioned by Luton Teaching Primary Care Trust and will separate sexual health provision into two services for under-25s and those over 25.

It will provide access to condoms, long-acting contraception and emergency contraception, STI testing and treatment, chlamydia screening, education and outreach work, pregnancy testing and counselling. The new service has been set up after a review found there were issues surrounding teenage pregnancy and that more services needed to be focused on young people.

Jackie Boath, chief executive of Brook East of England, said: "Providing young people with access to contraception, advice and counselling on sexual health is vital to allow them to make the choices that are right for them concerning their own sexual health."
