I am a 19-year-old university student; a far cry from the premature baby who entered this world weighing only 2lbs 7.5oz - don't forget the half!
After a traumatic start to life, spending over two months in intensive care with double jaundice, I was diagnosed with cerebal palsy. Then aged 10, I was diagnosed with severe spina bifida occulta - a rare form of the disability. My life is full of doctors, consultations and operations, but I don't let this stop me.
If I were in charge, I would ensure that all doctors and nurses listened to their patients and were not patronising about their conditions. I would ensure that they saw the doctor that they wanted to see, and not just any available medical professional. Bedside manner is the most important thing.
I would get rid of poverty, prevent social inequality for all groups and end prejudice and discrimination. I would make sure that paid workers are actually paid and appreciated, and that volunteers are seen as heroes. And, if somebody makes a promise, they should keep it. I would focus on travel and holiday provision for disabled people to help their independence. Finally, I would give charities funding so their young people can participate in more than a tokenistic way.
