DfE announces eight new 'partner in practice' councils

1 min read Social Care
Around £15m of government funding will go to eight new "partners in practice", to expand a peer support programme that sees leading children's services departments work with other local authorities to improve standards.

In addition to the announcement of the eight new partner in practice councils - Ealing, Camden, North Tyneside and South Tyneside working in partnership, Essex, Stockport, Hackney, East Riding of Yorkshire, and Doncaster Children's Services Trust - the government has also pledged £2m to improve leadership in children's services.

It said the Local Government Association will use the money to create a package of support to ensure lead council members have the skills they need to scrutinise performance and drive improvement in children's services.

The total of £17m announced today comes from a pot of £20m set aside by government in October 2017 to encourage councils to support each other to improve children's services standards.
