New postgraduate degree programmes, designed to promote better communication between professionals working with children and young people, were launched at a Birmingham university today.
The programmes will begin at Newman University College in October and will aim to address key issues identified in Lord Laming's child protection review published in March.
Hilary Dunphy, programme leader for postgraduate professional development, said: "We started planning this course eighteen months ago, but the recent high profile Baby P case has once again highlighted the need for professionals working with children and young people to work more closely together.
"The care and protection of children is a challenging sector to work in and even the most experienced professionals can benefit from a programme of continuing professional development, updating their knowledge and increasing their confidence to deal with difficult issues on a daily basis."
Specialist options available as part of the course include, safeguarding children and young people, understanding collaborative multi-agency working, listening to children and young people, leadership and managing people and equality and diversity.
An open evening will be held at the university on 9 July. For more information call 0121 476 1181.
