DCMS launches review into NCS governance

The government department responsible for youth policy has launched a probe into the way the National Citizen Service (NCS) is run after blocking a proposed "exit package" for former chief executive Michael Lynas.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) told CYP Now it has spoken and written to the chairman of the NCS Trust, Brett Wigdortz, over the exit package.

It said there will be a "thorough review of the governance arrangements at the NCS Trust".

Michael Lynas, who was appointed chief executive in 2013, announced last September that he intended to step down this year. He is being replaced today (2 March) by Mark Gifford, a former director at Waitrose & Partners.

"Earlier this month we were made aware of an unacceptable exit package proposed for the outgoing NCS chief executive," a spokesman for the DCMS said.
